FMM participated in KESUMA’s Engagement Session on Legal Reform on November 17, 2025, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, represented by FMM Vice President Dato’ Nathan K. Suppiah and officiated and chaired by Dr Hj Mohd Shaharin bin Umar, Deputy Secretary-General (Policy & International) of the Ministry of Human Resources. During the session, the Ministry presented its proposed reforms and enhancements to 26 existing labour laws. Dato’ Nathan had the opportunity to take the floor and share key considerations to further modernise Malaysia’s labour landscape, including:
* Shifting towards an entrepreneurship-based model, moving away from the traditional contract of service/contract for service framework.
* Introducing greater flexibility in working hours to reflect the realities of global employees managing both local and international work demands and schedules.
* Reviewing public holiday provisions, particularly where sick leave coincides with a public holiday and results in an additional leave entitlement.
* Modernising Section 20 of the Industrial Relations Act and preserving its original intention of protecting lower-wage workers and vulnerable groups.
